Send via SMS

New Broadcasts can be sent out via SMS if you have the necessary permissions to send on that broadcast tag, AND your mobile number is recorded within the BART system.

This can be achieved by either a smartphone or a non-smartphone, however the SMS must be sent in plain text.

How do I Send a Broadcast via SMS?

1. To send a broadcast message out via SMS, you need to enter in MSG : followed by your broadcast tag.

Example:
MSG : YOURBROADCASTTAG

2. If your broadcast is an alert, you must add in the word ALERT after your broadcast tag. If it’s not an alert, skip this step.

Example:
MSG : YOURBROADCASTTAG ALERT

3. Then enter in your broadcast message.

Example:
MSG : YOURBROADCASTTAG ALERT Land Search and Rescue Doongalla Forest

4. Then enter in an address or latitude and longitude coordinates

Example Address:
MSG : YOURBROADCASTTAG ALERT Land Search and Rescue Doongalla Forest, ADDR: Doongalla Picnic Ground, Mt. Dandenong

Example Lat/Lng coordinates:
MSG : YOURBROADCASTTAG ALERT Land Search and Rescue Doongalla Forest, LATLNG: -37.845506, 145.345471

Please Note: Be careful not to copy LAT/LNG coordinates from Google 'What's Here?' directly into BART, as it will insert additional formatting that isn't compatible with the system.

Instead, copy the coordinates into a plain text editor like 'NotePad' to strip out any unwanted formatting first.

5. The number you need to send your SMS broadcast to is: +61 0400 801 246
