Set a Member up with IVR
The IVR or ‘Interactive Voice Recognition’ service gives you the option to both receive and respond to Broadcast messages via a phone call (mobile or landline).
Like SMS, the IVR service allows you to respond to a Broadcast instead of, or in addition to a Smart Device Push Notification.
To learn more about IVR, please see this page.
SMS/IVR Credits
The IVR service requires the following SMS credits:
1 SMS credit required to connect to the landline or mobile
+ 1 SMS credit required per minute of connection
For example, if the IVR connection call lasts under a minute, 2 SMS credits are deducted. If the IVR connection call lasts under 2 minutes, 3 SMS credits are deducted.
Check List
To start, there’s a few requirements you’ll need to check off:
The Member must have a current BART subscription
The Member, Group or District must have pre-purchased SMS credits (you can purchase SMS credits here)
The Member must have their current landline or mobile phone number recorded within the system
Steps
1. Check your Members ‘Contact Methods’
Log into the BART Members WebApp
Navigate to the ‘Administration’ item in the main menu, then select ‘Members’ from the sub-menu
Select your Member from the list.
A popup dialogue box will appear with the ‘Profile’ tab open by default.
First ensure that your member has a current and valid landline or mobile phone number set within the ‘Contact Methods’ section – if not, click on the ‘Add +’ button.
You’ll see a new row in the Contact Methods section, where you can select the contact type from the dropdown:
Email
Mobile
Landline
Pager
Use the ‘Value’ text field provided to fill out the Member’s landline or mobile number.
Then tick the ‘VOICE’ checkbox.
When you’re ready, click on the ‘Save’ icon.
Please note: from this screen, you can scroll down to view how many SMS credits are available.
2. Enable VOICE (IVR) for a Broadcast Tag
Select the ‘Broadcast Tags’ tab up the top of the modal dialogue box
For each Broadcast Tag that you would like your Member to View or Send to, use the dropdown box provided in the ‘VOICE’ column.
Please note: It is recommended that Alerts Only is the selected setting, All will include any general broadcast messages sent to the specified broadcast tag. Having ALL selected could use large amounts of IVR/SMS credits unintentionally.
Once you’re happy with your settings, click on the ‘SAVE’ button
